Entendemos la escuela rural como un lugar de dinamización cultural y social, donde, además de desarrollarse las actividades escolares y de enseñanza, debe servir como punto de encuentro y de intercambio con participación directa de la población. El espacio destinado a la enseñanza, en este ámbito, debe ser un soporte que privilegie y fomente la relación con el prójimo cercano y con el entorno social y físico inmediato.
Creemos beneficioso proponer una dinámica social en la que la población forme parte de la construcción del edificio escolar, pero también en la construcción de la vida cotidiana de la misma. Entender la escuela como un espacio relacional, integrador y plural ayudará a la apropiación comunitaria de la misma, siendo esta un espacio representativo de la sociedad en la que se implanta. Pensamos la Escuela Rural como un espacio auténticamente colectivo, abierto a la enseñanza, al uso, al disfrute, al estímulo y a la actividad social. La escuela rural no es un contenedor de actividades, sino un difusor de actividades.
La propuesta. Ante la necesidad de diseñar un edificio que sirva como soporte a la actividad social antes expuesta, definimos tres calidades espaciales básicas: el espacio cubierto —aulas, S.U.M. y servicios—, el espacio semi cubierto —lugar flexible, de usos diversos, indefinido y vertebrador del edificio— y el espacio exterior —donde se desarrollan y estimulan las actividades al aire libre.
Etapabilidad y crecimiento. Diseñamos un módulo mínimo, repetible, que proporciona flexibilidad al edificio tanto en usos como en crecimiento. La estructura portante puede ser materializada tanto con perfiles metálicos como con tirantes de madera, según la disponibilidad en la zona de implantación. La cubierta resuelve en forma simple y completa las cuestiones hidrófugas y de asoleamiento. Proponemos recolectar el agua de lluvias y reutilizarla, también el almacenamiento de aguas grises para riego.
Construcción. El 17 de marzo de 2011 se realizó el acto de inauguración de la nueva escuela, con la asistencia de más de 300 personas. La Cámara Empresaria de Desarrolladores Urbanos (CEDU) y A.P.A.E.R. entregaron el nuevo edificio. El proyecto fue seleccionado por un prestigioso jurado integrado por los arquitectos Clorindo Testa, Carlos Sallaberry, Rubén Cherny, Enrique Cordeyro, Raúl Sáenz Valiente, Roberto Converti, Miguel Jurado, Enrique Fornieles y Luis Claro.
We understand the rural school as a place for cultural and social revitalisation where, beyond the development of school and teaching activities, it must serve as a meeting point and space for exchange with direct participation from the population. The space dedicated to teaching, in this context, must be a support that privileges and fosters relationships with nearby people and with the immediate social and physical environment.
We believe it is beneficial to propose a social dynamic in which the population takes part in the construction of the school building, but also in the construction of its daily life. Understanding the school as a relational, integrating and plural space will help the community to appropriate it as a space representative of the society in which it is situated. We conceive the Rural School as an authentically collective space, open to teaching, use, enjoyment, stimulation and social activity. The rural school is not a container of activities, but a diffuser of activities.
The proposal. To design a building that serves as a support for the social activity described above, we defined three basic spatial qualities: covered space —classrooms, multipurpose hall and services—; semi-covered space —flexible, multi-use, undefined, the vertebrating element of the building—; and exterior space —where outdoor activities are developed and stimulated.
Phasing and growth. We designed a minimal, repeatable module that provides flexibility in both uses and growth. The load-bearing structure can be built using either metal profiles or timber ties, depending on availability in the location. The roof resolves waterproofing and sun shading in a simple and complete manner. We propose collecting and reusing rainwater, and storing grey water for irrigation.
Construction. On 17 March 2011, the inauguration ceremony for the new school took place, attended by more than 300 people. CEDU and A.P.A.E.R. delivered the new building. The project was selected by a distinguished jury including architects Clorindo Testa, Carlos Sallaberry, Rubén Cherny, Enrique Cordeyro, Raúl Sáenz Valiente, Roberto Converti, Miguel Jurado, Enrique Fornieles and Luis Claro.
